Michael Parks, John Goodman, Michael Angarano, Stephen Root, and Ronnie Connell
Rating: 5 Stars
Praise go to Kevin Smith for his latest film, Red State, the first none comedy Smith has made to date. Taking his inspiration from the Phelps family of the Westboro Baptist Church, and blending it with the events of Waco, Tx., Smith delivers a must see film like no other.
Michael Parks leads his gay-hating family/ parish as Abin Cooper, a god fearing, gay hating man. He and his crew have vowed to cleans this word of the "gay menace, and have stock-piled there compound with a personal armory of their own. Michael parks does a great and believable job portraying the gospel crazed pastor, and keeping viewers engrossed his his dementia. On the Flip side to the is John Goodman portraying ATF special agent Joseph Keenan, who is tasked with bringing down Cooper and his followers, which leads to a bloody shoot-out at the compound. As an interesting footnote, Kevin Pollak is in this film for all of 5 minutes.
This film is already on DVD and is highly recommended for any fan of Kevin Smith. For being his first thriller Smith writes/ directs a topnotch film that will leave all viewers surprised and filled with shock, deserving of its 5 stars.

Staring James Franco, John Lithgow, Andy Serkis, and Freida Pinto.
4 stars.
A great film, plain and simple. At first I was skeptical after finding out there was to be another "apes" move, but I found my self awe struck while watching this film. The plot development as well as character grows was executed superbly. At starting, the film is a simple tale of science trying to overcome one of man kinds worst disease, Alzheimer's. Using apes as test subjects, they inadvertently lay the foundation for what will become the first in the original franchise, Planet of the Apes. Much more of an emotional story than its predecessors, James Franco plays a very believable scientist motivated by family hardships, while John Lithgow delivers a beautiful yet sad portrayal of a men suffering with Alzheimer. How ever the greatest portrayal was Andy Serkis as the CGI ape Caesar, which Serkis portrays in full mo-cap, as he has done previously in the Lord of the Rings franchise, and voiced .This film was highly entertaining, and the special effects stunning. After watching the movie once I was impressed with the film that I watched Rise two more time. This is definitely a movie i would highly recommend, and has in no way taken away from what made the original Apes series an icon.
